One really fun part of being a designer is watching trends come and go. I recently realized, “Oh, no; gradients are back!” This time they are appearing in the form of colorful backgrounds. Every time they come around, it seems to be a short-lived trend, so it will be interesting to watch and see how it evolves this time around.
After coming to this realization, I was going about my day and decided to visit my Instagram, when BAM! It hit me: Was Insta the pioneer on this latest resurgence of the gradient? We can all remember back to their rebranding efforts — most of us freaked out and hated it — but now I am seeing others are beginning to follow suit. So the question remains, “Was Instagram the first to begin using the gradient during this phase, or were they just the most prominent bandwagoner?”
